The ASA offers an annual mentorship program for emerging writers and picture book illustrators working in the areas of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, Young Adult literature, graphic novels, children's writing and picture book illustration.
Funded by Copyright Agency Limited, the ASA mentorship program aims to give successful applicants the chance to develop their work-in-progress to a publishable standard.
The program offers 15 successful applicants the opportunity to work closely with a mentor of their choice for 30 hours over up to 12 months. Mentorships can be conducted by phone, post, email, face-to-face meetings or a combination of these.
Entry is free for ASA members and $55 per entry for non-members.
To be eligible to apply for the program, you must:

be aged 18 and over |
| • |
have not published a full-length literary work |
| • |
have a substantial work-in-progress completed to at least first draft stage and not under consideration by, or contracted to, a publisher, and

| • |
be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. |
You will be asked to complete an application form and provide the following support material:

a brief description of your work-in-progress including its stage of completion |
| • |
a statement of what you would like to achieve through the mentorship program |
| • |
a 10-page sample of your work-in-progress or, for picture book illustrators, a story outline, a rough storyboard or dummy and a sample of illustration technique and style, and |
| • |
a brief literary CV |
