2 pm Fri 7 November – 2 pm Mon 10 November
Adelaide
The Picture Book Creators’ Retreat is an opportunity for emerging and established picture book authors and illustrators to be inspired and energised in a supportive atmosphere. Approximately half the time will be structured with seminars and workshops and the rest is free time to work, relax and enjoy the company of other authors and illustrators.
The retreat begins around 2 pm on the Friday and finishes after lunch on Monday afternoon. It is held this year at the Nunyara Conference Centre at 5 Burnell Drive, Belair, 10 kilometres south of Adelaide's CBD, on beautiful spacious grounds with glorious views. From the airport it’s a 20-25 minute taxi ride – about $30 – to Nunyara. UBD Map reference: 142 Q10.
The focus of the weekend will be on the innovative and versatile graphic novel, discussion and examination of the creation of stories with Indigenous content, and other stimulating and creative activities for authors and illustrators. Presenters include Jozef Szekeres, Dyan Blacklock and Nan Halliday.
Accommodation is in either twin or triple share rooms. Each room has an ensuite. There is access to a common lounge/meeting area and tea and coffee making facilities in the Supper Room. Seminars and workshops will be held in the conference and meeting rooms and meals are served in a separate dining room. Sporting facilities include tennis, basketball courts and table tennis. You can view the Centre’s facilities at their website .
The registration fee for ASA members is $345 twin share or $310 triple share. This includes accommodation and all meals except dinner on Sunday, which will be held in a local pub or restaurant.
Places are limited to 30. ASA members will be given first preference.
