The ASA offers a subsidised contract advisory service for its members.

Emerging writers and picture book illustrators who have not published a full-length literary work can apply to the ASA Mentorship Program.

The ASA has a number of portfolios to cater for its members.

ASA social clubs allow members to organise regular social meetings.

The ASA runs a weekend retreat each year for children's writers and illustrators, and maintains the Stylefile online showcase of illustrators.

With the support of CAL, the ASA runs professional development seminars around the country, assisting writers develop their careers.

The ASA trust fund is used to defend the rights of copyright holders, and the benevolent fund assists authors in need.

The annual Barbara Jefferis Award, first offered in 2008, offers $35,000 prize money for the best novel written by an Australian author that depicts women and girls in a positive way or otherwise empowers the status of women and girls in society.
