Developing a pitch is a crucial part of getting your book into focus. This course helps you refine your pitch, choose the best publishers to approach and get the right publication outcome for your manuscript. It will also help you understand where your work fits in and how to get it read.

‘Pitch Perfect’ is designed for authors of fiction and non-fiction for teens and above. It is not designed for authors of picture books, or books for young children.

Light lunch and refreshments included.

What will participants gain from the course?

The course will cover the following:
1. Where your book belongs in the publishing marketplace [independent/multinational publisher/self-published/academic etc]
2. What kind of book you have to pitch [how and why to work out your genre]
3. How you’ll pitch it [effective pitching: what to put in and what to leave out]
4. How and where to send it [creating a submission]

About the presenter

Dr Emily Booth is the Export Manager at Melbourne’s Text Publishing, where she has worked since 2000. Before working on Text’s international distribution, she worked in the roles of Editorial Manager, Publicity Manager and as Sales and Marketing Director. Prior to working in publishing she taught history at Latrobe, Melbourne University and Deakin University. She is the author of two books.
