I'm a member but I don't have my log in details. What do I do?

All members of the Australian Society of Authors are approved to have access to the ASA website within two business days of joining. Your username is the email address that you provided to us when you joined. If you do not have your password you can set a new one using the Password Recovery feature on and your email address.

If you haven't been approved yet but want urgently to use features on the ASA site such as the portfolio edit feature or to access member discounts, contact the ASA office on (02) 9211 1004 and we will move your membership application to top priority.

How do I find my membership number online?

First you will need to log in using your email address and password. Once you've logged in, you will find yourself on a page that is titled "You are now logged in as ..." and your name. If you are already logged in and you want to find that page, just look to the top right-hand side of any page on our website and click where it says "Hello ..." and your name.

Once you are on this page, click on the tab titled "Membership Details". You will see your membership number and class displayed at the top of the screen.

How do I edit my member portfolio?

First you will need to log in using your email address and password. Once you've logged in, go to Members - Edit My Portfolio and read each step carefully. Please note that all member portfolios are uploaded and administered by members themselves. The ASA cannot add information for you or make updates and corrections. Once you've submitted your portfolio, it will be subject to approval by an ASA administrator. This process may take up to three working days.

If you experience any difficulties editing your portfolio please call (02) 9211 1004 or email comms@asauthors.org with a detailed description of the problem and our Communications Officer will assist you.

I can't add books to my portfolio. Why?

Only full members of the ASA are able to add books to their portfolio. It may be that you joined the ASA at the associate member rate. The associate member category is intended for writers and illustrators aspiring towards professional authorship. If this definition no longer applies to you and you now have books to list, call us on (02) 9211 1004 to make an upgrade.

What type of information should I include in my portfolio?

Member portfolios are intended to showcase details of authors' lives, work, influences, achievements and publications. You can add as much or as little information as you like. Some things you may like to include are an author photo, an illustration sample (if you work as an illustrator) and links to your author website and social media channels (if you have them). You will also be given the option to select one or more genres that apply to your work. We recommend you complete this step as it will make your portfolio more searchable on both the ASA site, and the Authors Unlimited portal site.

If you are a full member of the ASA you can also add your books. This step is optional, however, please note if you are intending to sell eBooks through the Authors Unlimited portal site, you will need to complete this step for the titles you wish to sell. Book listings will also provide you with the option to add links to any relevant sites that give out information or have your book for sale. Adding a book cover to listings is optional but recommended.

I'm having trouble uploading images to my portfolio. What should I do?

Profile images may be no larger than 200 KB and book cover images no larger than 500 KB. It may be that your image is too large and the file size needs to be reduced. You should resize your images to 200 pixels wide.

You can resize your image in Windows paint by following these instructions from the Microsoft website:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows7/resize-a-picture-using-paint

Or, if you’re using a Mac computer you can use Preview. You’ll find instructions on resizing your image in Preview on the Apple website under Mac Basics: Preview, ‘Viewing and working with images’:

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2506#images

Your image will also need to be uploaded in png, gif, jpeg or jpg format. After opening your image in your photo editing software, click 'Save As' and make sure you select one of these file types when you save.

Why can't I upload my eBook to my portfolio?

Member eBooks that are ready to be uploaded and sold through the ASA website and Authors Unlimited must be submitted to the ASA office for review before they can be uploaded to our website. If you have a file that is ready to be added to our Authors Unlimited catalogue, please email comms@asauthors.org. Once we have reviewed your file and all the necessary documentation has been provided, an ASA staff member will upload your eBook to our websites for sale.

How do I get my portfolio onto Authors Unlimited?

All member portfolios, whether they are new or updated, are cycled automatically onto the Authors Unlimited website (www.authors-unlimited.org). Once you have submitted your portfolio, or edited and saved your changes, you don't need to do anything to make this happen.
