    To emphasise the value we, as a nation, place on Australian creativity, the rights management organisations, the Copyright Agency and APRA AMCOS, have launched a positive campaign This Book/Song Changed My Life – where the public is invited to name the book, song, poem, painting, play or any other creative work – that made an enormous difference to their lives.

    It gives us great pleasure to announce that our new fully integrated database and website have been launched. Along with the new system comes an updated ASA logo, new website design and improved website navigation.

  • Anna Deveson and Georgia Blain: women of heart and mind

    Tragically, the ASA has lost two of its former Chairs in a matter of days. Mother and daughter Anne Deveson and Georgia Blain were both Chairs of the ASA at different times. Georgia died on 9 December and Anne died on 12 December 2016.

  • Hopes parallel importation will not pass the Senate

    In early November, the ASA petition against the parallel importation of books, boasting nearly 20,000 signatures from authors, illustrators, publishers, editors, literary agents, printers and book-lovers, was mailed to all 225 Australian Federal MPs and Senators.

  • What's the deal with "fair use"?

    You may have heard or read recently about a concept in copyright law called “fair use”. If you haven’t, you probably will soon, as the Australian Productivity Commission is currently deliberating on this and other changes to our Intellectual Property Arrangements. Its draft report will be delivered in late April.
